Hazera Genetics will exhibit, at Arava R&D 2010, a range of agro-technical solutions that will provide growers with peace of mind and stability for the forecast yields and behavior of the various varieties throughout the year.
The pepper varieties that Hazera Genetics will exhibit are of the Blocky type, with high levels of firmness and long fruit life on the plants, which gives growers more flexibility as to the picking date. In addition, all the varieties have high tolerance to the TSWV virus, and various deficiencies characteristic of pepper growing, such as iron and potassium deficiencies. The new varieties are named Atir, Liri and Hila. They are high yield varieties characterized by uniform and consistent yields, that cuts work days required to remove disfigured fruit.
Additional new pepper varieties with high yields for late picking and with long shelf life are Zofar (red fruit) and Sheizaf (yellow fruit).
According to Hovav Shor, Pepper Product Manager at Hazera Genetics: “We invest resources and effort into identifying, understanding and studying future market trends, with an emphasis on consumer and grower requirements. The varieties developed by Hazera Genetics represent the forefront of development and innovation, and offer growers improved characteristics to strengthen the competitive edge of growers in Israel and in the markets overseas.”
Alongside new peppers, Hazera Genetics will exhibit its cluster tomato variety named Antonella, characterized by good ripening at high temperatures, as well as the Marylu variety, that is resistant to the Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus (TYLCV) virus and has premium flavor.
